Dealing with the terrible stuff in business
And I mean the worst of the worst. Here's my thinking on it.
Sometimes business just kinda sucks.
I guess like anything in life, but we probably have the influencers to blame for making it look like it’s all lambos and happy times.
A quick example from me is a big deal that fell through for us recently.
This was a potential client I’d been talking to on-and-off for over a year. Thought I had them ready to sign up for our immigration platform last year then got ghosted (isn’t that fun?). Reconnected this year, multiple positive talks, even had them sign onto/pay for our platform for a month, just to have them change their mind.
Obviously building businesses, like life, is not all sunshine and rainbows. But once in a while it can also just really suck. You lose a big client, a big deal goes south, a partner screws you over.
Something really crappy that makes you think “no this just pure sucks, nothing good can come from it”.
But I’ve learned two things from these types of suckiness.
First, is that all of this crappy stuff that sucks makes the good stuff that much better.
Yes, losing a big deal or client sucks, but then you feel even better when you do close a big one. It’s like that saying, the light shines brightest when it’s darkest. The ups feel way better because of all the downs.
And second, I still like to believe that if you’re working hard and being a good person, (almost) everything happens for a reason.
Maybe something super, super bad happens. It’s terrible, you can’t possibly fathom how or why. But it opens you up for another opportunity down the road that is amazing.
Maybe it isn’t the next day, or week, or month, but it puts the wheels in motion for good stuff to happen down the road.
That, or we should all just give up and go get a job… just kidding!
Have a great day,
