Squeezing every last drop out of a Friday
A few weeks ago I met one of you fine email subscribers for a coffee.
I’m not sure if they want their name shared so I always keep my lawyer hat on and keep things confidential, even just first names.
Anyway, he realized from my emails that I was near his neighbourhood, responded to my email and we scheduled a coffee chat.
First, because we work in a similar industry and had been in touch before, so we planned on chatting in-person anyway. Second, because I love meeting email subscribers/followers - I truly appreciate all of you. And third, because we both work from home and it can get lonely at times, so we look for opportunities like that to get out of the house, chat with other entrepreneurs, build our network, etc.
Suffice to say, it was a great chat.
And as someone who has mostly worked from home for the last ~8 years, it’s one of the things that has kept me sane. I love working from home and will probably continue to do it for quite some time, but in order to do it for such a long period of time without going insane, even I need to do some things to keep from turning into a gremlin.
Namely:
work out 3-4 times per week (ironically I do this in my house/basement, but it’s the movement that’s key)
go for walks outside as much as possible. I also try to take as many of my calls while walking as possible
fit in networking stuff outside of the house, even just 1-2 times per month (like meeting someone for a coffee)
spending enough time with family/friends outside of work
And lastly, and maybe most importantly, running my Friday Grind work session each week, where we jump on a Google Meet call, take 5 minutes to share what we’re working on, mute mics and work for 45 minutes straight, then spend the last 10 minutes sharing how we did and networking a bit.
Not only is it a great way to have some of that “teamwork” vibe instead of just working alone all day, but as someone whose energy tends to fade on Friday afternoons, this holds me accountable and I end up being way more productive.
Anyway, it’s today at 3pm EST (Toronto time), and free to join. Just hit “reply” and let me know if you want one of the last few spots (before we’re full).
Have a great day,
