The keys to business success from Sir Richard
Finished another great autobiography by a very successful entrepreneur.
Finished a pretty great autobiography last night, one that I’ve read before.
It’s called “Losing My Virginity: How I Survived, Had Fun, and Made a Fortune Doing Business My Way” by Richard Branson.
I first read it a good 5-6 years ago and really enjoyed it, and as most of you know, I tend to re-read the good business bios/autobios multiple times over the years.
This one was especially good because it was pure storytelling - Mr. Branson (who I think has since been knighted, so maybe it should be Sir Richard Branson) basically spent the entire book telling his story; from childhood, to starting his first business in school, to getting into the record industry, airlines, crazy trips, a lawsuit and more.
His journey was a rollercoaster, like it is for most entrepreneurs, and the raw details he shared of difficult decisions, stressful times, ups and downs, and more kept me turning the pages pretty quickly.
One of the many takeaways I had was that he didn’t have any crazy strategies, secrets or shortcuts to grow a business. He worked hard, he put himself out there, he never shied away from picking up the phone to call people, and he prioritized having fun and doing good things with other smart people.
It’s summarized well in this quote from the epilogue of the book on how to succeed in business:
Definitely a highly recommended read.
In my opinion, there’s nothing better to read than autobiographies from successful entrepreneurs, and this one is right up there.
