The one thing solopreneurs put off (for no good reason)
Had an interesting chat with a newer solopreneur last Friday discussing a common struggle he's having as a "perfectionist".
Last week I opened up my calendar for a few free business chats.
And on Friday I had a very interesting conversation with a lovely subscriber struggling with one of the most common things I hear solopreneurs struggle with.
It’s one of those things that everyone wants to do but keeps putting off for some reason or another.
Before I jump into it, some context:
It was an interesting conversation with Farhan who is relatively newer to the solopreneur game but has some good things going for him:
he’s had a successful career so far and is really good at his one specialty (in his case, helping experts monetize their knowledge with e-learning products)
he’s got the basics setup: a good website, niche, specific offer and a good head on his shoulders
he’s trying some basic stuff like cold emailing, voicemail, ads, etc., with minimal success so far
Might sound familiar to you?
But what most people learn the hard way, especially at the beginning, is that just because you build it, doesn’t mean they will come.
In other words, having a good offer and website is half the battle. From there it’s all about marketing and sales to get your business off the ground.
That’s when we started talking about the one thing that he knows he should be doing but hasn’t tried yet, mostly because he’s a self-proclaimed “perfectionist” (which, ironically, is a bad excuse because making content that is “too polished” can actually be a bad thing sometimes!).
And that is starting to create content on social media to build his brand and drive warmer traffic to his site and offers.
Maybe you can relate to feeling either confused about how to start, and/or that because you’re a perfectionist, you haven’t had the time or energy to get it started?
I’ll tell you one (of many) things I told Farhan: you can twiddle your thumbs and blame it on perfectionism all you want, but your competitors are out there, posting content and taking your clients as we speak.
If that isn’t enough to get you started, I don’t know what is.
And trust me when I say content creation is probably the single biggest opportunity out there today. My ~17k followers on LinkedIn and ~58k on Tiktok make up a huge source of traffic for us, even though we sell software to businesses.
So take this as your “sign” to get started!
And if you need any pointers, don’t forget I have a few more slots for a free business coaching call that you can book with me here before they’re all gone.
Have a great day,

P.S. I might put together a short guide to help get started on this too. Something short and actionable on how to get your first 100 followers on social. Sound interesting? Hit “reply” and let me know.
