Work from home or office? My thoughts
Spending some time visiting family in Ottawa this week.
On the work front, I’ve been using a friend’s extra office to have a few productive work days since he has an extra one at his law firm around the corner.
I’m so used to working from home 9.9 days out of 10 these days, so it’s actually been quite the change for me.
Do you prefer working from home, or at an office, or a combination?
I’ve been considering getting a flexible shared office space back in Toronto for a while, but still don’t think it’s worth it just yet. Here’s my thinking:
Pros of office:
separate work from home more
likely more productive/fewer distractions
change of scenery can be nice
potential to network/meet new people/generate some business while “out and about”
Cons:
added expense
longer commute (can vary depending on how close)
not sure I could replicate my home setup as well (double monitor, standing desk, printer, etc.)
my wife is on maternity leave with our (now) 5 month old baby, so I go upstairs for work breaks to see them. I don’t think any break could be better than playing with your happy baby!
would have to either pack or buy a lunch
So for now I will likely continue to work from home, while maintaing a virtual mailbox at an office nearby that also allows me to rent out their meeting room if clients ever want to meet in person (spoiler alert: none have wanted to in 5+ months, especially if it means schlepping in Toronto traffic).
Also gives more flexibility when you’re not tied to a location or locked into a lease, but for many that’s not a big deal.
More thoughts on being tied down geographically coming in a future email.
And if you need help with your biz, content creation or AI, let me know.
Have a great day,
