An update and 3 big biz focuses
Every once in a while I like to do a review post, sharing what I’m focused on right now from a very high level.
Also recommended as good practice for you and your business, in case you’re due to do one.
Before I jump in, a quick weekend report: Sunday was Father’s Day, and for those who have been subscribed since at least January, you know that I became a father in January.
Suffice to say, it was a pretty amazing day because we spent it with my family in Ottawa (my parents, grandfather, aunt/cousins, friends, etc.) and because there’s something special about the first one (and happy Father’s Day to all you fathers out there too!).
It was a bit weird to be honest, as I’ve never been a topic of interest on Father’s Day for obvious reasons, but extremely pleasant to get some extra attention and just to have an extra day to appreciate our daughter/family and the joy babies can bring.
Anyway, enough of that lovey dovey stuff, eh?! You’re here for business!
The three big focuses I’m tripling down on:
We’re doing some big stuff at Visto.ai, the legal tech company I cofounded, and that’s been my priority #1 for a while. More specifically, launched some big features for Canadian immigration firms recently, continuing to lead the way in tech/AI, and evaluating some interesting new growth opportunities given where we see the market going. Legaltech seems to be having a moment and we want to play a part.
On the law firm side of things, I’m slowly building my family law book of business. It’s been a combo of some legal aid files (which there are no shortage of here in Ontario, I’ve actually had to slow my intake of new clients so as not to take on too many, too soon), and taking on a few private files as well. The hardest part has been learning the new area of law since I’ve mostly done immigration for the previous 8 years, but a combo of good mentors, friends and AI have helped me catch up quicker than most (I think).
The podcast and substack. Since implementing my latest content repurposing growth strategy, things have been going pretty well. Especially the Shorts and Tiktok views have been going strong. I’m going to keep focusing on putting out good podcast content, repurposing the crap out of it, building this substack and introducing a more formal community for those interested soon.
I’m thinking it might be time to move beyond just substack for the community, perhaps something like Skool or another platform to make it a proper community with chat functionality, events, etc., especially now that I’m doing the weekly Friday Grind sessions.
Still mulling it over, if you have any suggestions, hit “reply” and let me know.
And if you need any help on the business, marketing or AI side, let me know as well.
Have a great day,
