The death of an old friend and Friday Grind
My laptop crapped out (read: died) on me yesterday, is that ever a pain in the ass, eh?
Long story short is, as mentioned in my last email, I mostly work from home and so I use a desktop with a standing desk, double monitor, the whole shabang.
I’ve mostly been a desktop/PC user since my teenage days of playing computer games. Back then, laptops simply couldn’t handle most games so it was your only option for playing the finest titles like Age of Mythology, America’s Army, Starcraft 2 and yes, World of Warcraft (don’t hold it against me…).
So I definitely prefer desktops in general.
But in 2017, as I was spending more time working and moving around to coworking spaces, coffee shops, etc., I got my first Macbook. Like I said, I’m more of a PC guy, but when I was looking for a laptop for work where battery life and quality was more important, I wanted to go with the “best”.
Definitely have only good things to say about Macbooks.
I got great use out of mine, although I don’t use it as often now. Mostly my desktop at home, but I use it when I travel or for working in the living room at night with my wife while she watches the latest “Desperates Housewives of somewhere” or “The Bachelor of who knows what”.
Anyway, yesterday, after 8 long years of friendship, my first Macbook died on me and the cost of repair would be about 70% of the cost of getting a new one, so I pulled the trigger and got a new Macbook Air.
I’m typing on it right now, pretty nifty.
I gotta say, as someone who doesn’t have a design bone in his body, even I can appreciate the design and functionality that Apple pulls off. The sleek style of the product, the simplicity of the box, the ease of use of opening it, plugging it in and going.
No wonder it’s one of the very few trillion dollar companies out there.
But on to the important part.
The half day of solving the laptop issue means I need to catch up on some work, and there’s no better way to have a productive Friday than by joining the Friday Grind, where we hop on a video call, share what we’re working on, mute mics and grind it out for 45 minutes, then share how it went before going off on our ways.
60 of the most fun/productive minutes you’ll have all week.
Full details on how it goes here.
Today’s Friday Grind is at 3pm EST (Toronto time), but only has 2 slots left (as we have some grinders who attended previously, enjoyed it and have already asked me to secure a spot).
So if you want 1 of the last 2 spots, hit “reply” and let me know asap. First come, first served.
Have a great day,
